Hello and welcome to The Big What Adventure – an experiment in crowd sourced creativity.
If you’ve been here before, you’ll notice we’ve changed some stuff – because we’re learning as we go. What else would you expect with an experiment?
This remains a place that we have created to open up our creative process – and the real briefs that we’re working on with our clients – to a much broader audience. That’s because we believe that great ideas can come from a much broader range of people than those with the word ‘creative’ on their business card. But there’s some stuff we need to change here.
First up, we initially called this open source creativity. And it’s not that. It’s really crowd sourced creativity. That’s for two reasons.
The first is that we can’t promise to post up to the site all the ideas that we receive. This is basically because we may have to maintain some confidentiality on certain projects. That may be annoying, but unfortunately it’s the way it is. If you were our clients, would you run the risk of showing off your ideas to the competition before you’ve made them? As and when we do receive ideas that get made, we’ll show them off. For what it’s worth – and in the spirit of openness – no ideas have yet gone into production, but we are very hopeful that this will change soon.
The second is that once you’ve submitted your ideas, we actually own them. Now this is the sticky point – and it’s the one that’s rubbed some people up the wrong way – but we have to approach it this way. We’re not attempting to rob you of ideas; it’s simply a legal requirement that we have to fulfil in order to share real client briefs with you all. We promise to reward people for any ideas that we take forward – whether it is financial, career related or some other way. And unfortunately, you just have to trust us on this. Anyone who’s been reading around other people’s blogs commentating on this site will recognise that we’re going to get more stick for this. But sadly that’s just the way it is.
We’ve also had a look at the legals (our terms and conditions) that we obviously must have – and in the interests of openness, we have put these up at the front of the site, rather than hiding them away. But we’re going to have a play with them as they aren’t very friendly at the moment and we can do a bit more to change this.
That’s it really. We’re going to dab a bit more colour and life into the look of the site as it’s pretty dull right now. Plus, whilst this site is all about opening up the creative process – we’re going to add a few things for you to read every now and then. And finally, our first job is to make sure that we put more briefs up here for you to have a crack at!
